What's So Special About B-Vitamins?

Updated: Jul 31, 2020

Some of my all-time favourite nutrients & an absolute beast to be reckoned with are B-vitamins. These carry so much nutritional benefit, it’s no wonder why so many doctors recommend it. But just what makes B-vitamins so unique? Before we get into that though, what exactly are B-vitamins.

What Are B-Vitamins?

Humans actually get a decent amount of B-vitamins as is, through much of what they eat. A lot of these B-vitamins are found in fruit & veggies, but what happens is what happens to most of us. Poor dietary choices, living a mostly sedentary lifestyle, alcohol and other vices almost rid your body entirely of B-vitamins. Making them extremely ineffective. [1]

That’s why supplementing with B-vitamins is so recommended because in today’s current environment, there are so many factors that present a clear & present danger to our health.

But what else can these water-soluble powerhouses do? Well each of the 9 B-vitamins have very different & unique qualities that make it essential for that all-day energy.

Let’s dive right into it. Meet your nutrition Avengers!

Vitamins B-1 aka Thiamine

Thiamine is like the Black Widow of your Avengers team of B-vitamins. It helps boost your metabolism by effectively convert carbohydrates into glucose, which then becomes usable energy. It’s super important to maintain a healthy digestive system & improve the cardiovascular functioning of the body. That’s not all though! It also helps the body to fend of chemicals that would negatively affect the stress hormone, cortisol leaving you feeling more anxious & stressed out. [2]

Some of the best ways you can get your doses of vitamin B-1 are through pork, whole-grain cereals, rye, wheat germ & kidney beans. Not to mention it doesn’t hurt to throw in some asparagus, potatoes, mushrooms, etc.

Some important benefits of Thiamine is probably the most obvious and the reason why you came here. It produces more energy for you! How? Well, you see, we produce a thing called glucose which still remains the principal source of energy in your body. But only when that glucose molecule is oxidized can it actually release energy to the parts in your body that need it the most. Thiamine helps to oxidize that glucose a lot quicker & more efficiently. [3]

In addition to that, vitamin B-1 also aids in the proper development around your nerves, allowing you to maintain proper health. Another way it does this is by producing more of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which is used to relay messages between the nerves & muscle cells. And that all leads to better heart health

Vitamin B-2 (Riboflavin)

If Thiamine was like Black Widow, then Riboflavin is like Hawkeye in this team-up.

One of the biggest benefits of vitamin b2 is that it helps your body to produce more red blood cells. Red blood cells are super important for your energy & the main reason being is that they deliver oxygen to different parts of your body, thus improving your aerobic endurance in the process. Vitamin B2 comes in & helps to create more of it, so you won’t feel completely gassed out after a tough workout. [4]

Riboflavin also helps you to break down carbohydrates, proteins & fats and turns that into energy. For an example, if you’re working out and you happen to eat a rather large meal before hand, it can break down the calories of that and turn it into new, ready-to-use energy that can help you power through the toughest workouts. [5]

Vitamin B-3 (Niacin)

Niacin is like the Incredible Hulk of the B-vitamins. Meaning it’s the one that’s unpredictable but still packs one hell of a punch.

Niacin is known for maintaining good blood circulation, helping to boost memory power while improving overall brain functioning, helping to lower cholesterol levels. But the most important benefit that it has going for it, is that it helps to kickstart the Krebs cycle.

The Krebs cycle is where most of the action in your body takes place. It takes the glucose that is formed after the breakdown of fats, carbs and proteins, courtesy of Riboflavin, and gets thrown into this cycle whereby ATP is produced as a result. And ATP is your body’s main energy source. Voila!

That’s not all Niacin has to offer. Because of its ability to maintain proper blood circulation, it helps to reduce the levels of bad low-density lipids (LDL) cholesterol, and increase high density lipids (HDL). This prevents the thickening of artery walls leading to dangerous heart diseases. [6] [7]

Vitamin B12 (Cobolamin)

So who do we have on our team so far? We’ve got Vitamin B1 (Black Widow), Vitamin B2 (Hawkeye), Vitamin B3 (The Incredible Hulk), and we’ve got Iron Man (Vitamin B12).

Why is Vitamin B12 like Iron Man? Because it’s the most popular. Almost any doctor would recommend taking vitamin b12 especially if you’re low on energy, and some go as far as saying you should be taking vitamin b12 energy shots. But why?

Well Vitamin B12 is heavily associated with a substance called the Intrinsic Factor (IF) to perform useful tasks that maintain the good health & energy of the human body. But what else does Cobalamin have to offer?

Well it helps to repair cell damage. In order to maintain a strong nervous system, vitamin b12 comes in and repairs broken red blood cells, and creates more red blood cells in the process.

That’s not all though. It can also help form new DNA! In fact, vitamin b12 is so much in control of that area that a lack of vitamin b12 causes abnormal cell formations known as megaloblasts, which can lead to a whole host of nasty things.

And the most important benefit of vitamin b12 is that it helps to fight fatigue! How? Well as confirmed by the Harvard Medical review, this supplement has the power to withstand heavy work pressure. Making it all the more useful in your high intensity workout training. [9] [10]

Looking at all these benefits of B-vitamins, it’s no wonder why we use it in our supplement, SUNFIRE.
